Reported Speech - Practice
Convert the following into Reported Speech:
The students said, “We can speak English well!
Sammy said, “I didn't come home last night.”
Emily said, “I'm falling in love with you!”
My mother told me, “Be careful!"
My father told me, “I'm missing you!”
(this is rare, however, “I miss you” is usually said, but this is even more endearing)
They said, “We'll cook dinner on Friday.”
Tom, said, “I have been studying martial arts for ten years.”
Pamela said, “After this year, I will have been studying biology for four years.”
Using interrogatives (for reported questions) is a bit different:
She asked me, “Where do you live?”
(Hint: the modal 'do' is dropped in reported speech)
The police officer asked, “What time did you arrive home?”
The guy at the night club asked me, “What's your phone number?”
The tourist asked us, “Excuse me, where is the post office, please?"
